佛印（1032年 - 1098年）俗姓林，名了元，字覺老，一說姓謝名端卿，北宋饒州浮梁（今江西景德鎮）人。
生於明道元年，幼聰慧，三歲誦《論語》 ，五歲能誦詩三千首。在竹林寺讀《楞嚴經》，不久出家，至廬山開先寺禮雲門下三世善暹禪師為師，十九歲時又到廬山圓通寺參謁居訥禪師，歷任淮山斗方寺、廬山開先寺、歸宗寺，丹陽金山寺、焦山寺、江西大仰山寺住持。
與周敦頤、蘇軾友善，蘇軾謫居黃州時，佛印住廬山，兩人常有唱酬，其往來事跡，可見於《禪林僧寶傳·了元傳》、《居士分燈錄》卷上等。佛印說法講究用詞，有「人間寒食，洞裡花開。游蜂與蝴蝶爭飛，鷺子共黃鸝對語。」之名句。野史中常有佛印與蘇軾鬥智的故事，馮夢龍的《醒世恆言》第十二卷有《佛印師四調琴娘》。
哲宗元符元年圓寂，享壽六十七歲。
