11  | 曹彬、潘美伐太原，將下，曹麾兵稍卻，潘力爭進兵，曹終不許。即歸至京，潘詢曹何故退兵不進，曹徐語曰：「上嘗親征不能下，下之則我輩速死。」既入對，太祖詰之，曹曰：「陛下神武聖智，尚不能下，臣等安能必取？」帝頷之而已。太祖親征太原不能下，開寶二年春也。時曹武惠實掌兵扈駕。明年，命潘武惠伐嶺南。四年，嶺南嚴，留知廣州。五年，兼嶺南轉運使。六年，還朝。七年，與曹武惠同伐江南諸國，八年克之，九年還朝。是歲，太祖崩。二公未嘗共伐太原也。按《史》開寶元年嘗伐北漢，李繼勳為大將，曹王為都監。然上親征乃在次年，此謂「神武聖智尚不能下」，蓋誤也。太平興國四年，曹王為樞密使，潘武惠為北面都招討制置使，二公同行。然是歲太宗乃親平太原，亦與此錄不合。又按，平晉之歲，太宗親征幽州，不能下。雍熙三年，曹、潘二王同出，亦無功。疑所云「神武聖智不能下者」指此。然是役也，曹出山前，潘出山後，潘克雲中五郡，以曹失律，遂班師，實不同行。此云「曹麾兵稍卻，潘力爭」，亦非也。曹既失律，召還下吏，責為衛將軍。潘屯雁門如故，久之，乃入朝。此云「既還京，曹語潘」云云亦謬。 |
