1  | 雲南巡撫徐之銘貪淫昏懦，為回人所箝制，因又挾回自重，怙惡不悛。及其黨殺升任陝西巡撫鄧爾恆於境上，總督張亮基有戒心，引疾求退。同治癸亥，朝廷乃起用潘忠毅公鐸署雲南總督。潘不避艱險，毅然入滇，道經曲靖，回弁馬聯陞來謁，面稱有人給信，令其設謀殺害總督。聯陞固回黨之黠悍者，或故為恫喝之言，或徐之銘與省城回眾慮潘至，早欲害之，均未可知。潘置之不問。行至板橋，署布政使岑襄勤公毓英、總兵馬如龍排隊迎入省城。既視事，亟欲力振威權，安輯回、漢。而同僚異心，寇盜逼處，殊不易措手矣。 |
