李清臣字邦直，魏人。韓琦聞其名，以兄子妻之。舉進士，試秘閣。時大雨霖，災異數見，清臣對言善止天地之異者，不止其異，止民之疾痛而已。策入為髙等，以秘書郎、僉書平江軍判官，名籍甚。英宗語王廣淵曰：「韓琦固忠臣，但避嫌太審。如李清臣者，公議皆謂可用，顧以親抑之，可乎？」詔為國史編修官，累官門下侍郎、知大名府，卒。
