濠人朱元璋字國瑞起兵據滁州，明太祖事始此。元璋先世家，沛再徙泗州，父世珍始徙濠之鍾離，晉郡後為縣，今鳳陽府臨淮縣是。生四子，元璋其季也。至正四年，大饑疫，時元璋年十七，父母兄相繼歿，孤無所依，乃入皇覺寺為僧，遊食諸州，尋復還寺，㑹盜賊並起，元璋謀避兵卜之，去留皆不吉，乃入濠城見郭子興，子興奇其貌，留為親兵，妻以所撫馬公宿州人，逸其名女賈魯圍濠，元璋力拒之，既而圍解，因收里中兵，得七百人，子興署為鎮撫，元璋見諸帥無足與共事，乃以兵屬他將，而獨與徐逹字天徳，濠人。湯和字鼎臣，濠人、費聚字子英，五河人等南畧地定逺，梁縣，今屬鳯陽府計降驢牌寨民兵三千，與俱東襲張知院于橫澗山，在定逺縣西北，收其卒三萬，道遇李善長，字百室，定逺人。與語，大悅，遂與俱攻陷滁州。時郭子興與趙均用相惡，均用嘗執囚子興，元璋救出之，至是専狠益甚，挾子興攻盱眙、泗州，將害之，元璋又使人賂其左右，子興得免，乃將其所部萬餘就元璋于滁州。
