《詩》,魯、齊、韓三家,《藝文志》以為魯最近之。《齊詩》五際六情,獨傳異義,則《詩》之別傳也。《韓詩》,唐時尚存,惜無傳人而亡。《毛傳》孤行,鄭《箋》間采魯、韓。自漢以後,說《詩》皆宗毛、鄭。宋歐陽修《本義》始辨毛、鄭之失,而斷以己意。蘇轍《詩傳》始以毛《序》不可盡信,止存其首句,而刪去其餘。南宋鄭樵《詩傳辨妄》始專攻毛、鄭,而極詆《小序》。當時周孚已反攻鄭樵。朱子早年說《詩》,亦主毛、鄭;呂祖謙讀詩記》引朱氏曰,即朱子早年之說也。後見鄭樵之書,乃將《大小序》別為一編而辨之,名《詩序辨說》。其《集傳》亦不主毛、鄭,以《鄭》、《衛》為淫詩,且為淫人自言。同時陳傅良已疑之,謂:以城闕為偷期之所,彤管為淫奔之具,竊所未安。馬端臨文獻通考》辨之尤詳,謂:夫子嘗刪《詩》,取《關雎》樂而不淫;今以文公《詩傳》考之,其為男女淫泆而自作者,凡二十有四,何夫子猶存之不刪!又引鄭六卿餞韓宣子所賦詩,皆文公所斥以為淫奔之人所作,而不聞被譏。乃知當如序者之說,不當如文公之說也。是朱子詩集傳》,宋人已疑之。而朱子作《白鹿洞賦》,引《青衿》傷學校語,門人疑之而問,朱子答以序亦不可廢。是朱子作《集傳》,不過自成一家之言,非欲後人盡廢古說而從之也。王柏乃用其說而刪《詩》,豈朱子之意哉!
