經名昉自孔子,經學傳於孔門。《韓非子顯學篇》云:「孔子之後,儒分為人,有子張氏、子思氏、顏氏、孟氏、漆雕氏、仲良氏、公孫氏、樂正氏之儒。」陶潛《聖賢群輔錄》云:「顏氏傳《詩》,為諷諫之儒;孟氏傳《書》,為疏通致遠之儒;漆雕氏傳《禮》,為恭儉莊敬之儒;仲良氏傳《樂》,為移風易俗之儒;樂正氏傳《春秋》,為屬辭比事之儒;公孫氏傳《易》,為潔靜精微之儒。」諸儒皆不傳,無從攷其家法;可攷者,惟卜氏子夏。洪邁容齋隨筆》云:「孔子弟子,惟子夏於諸經獨有書。雖傳記雜言未可盡信,然要為與他人不同矣。於《易》則有《傳》。於《詩》則有《序》。而《毛詩》之學,一云:子夏授高行子,四傳而至小毛公;一云:子夏傳曾申,五傳而至大毛公。於《禮》則有《儀禮喪服》一篇,馬融王肅諸儒多為之訓說。於《春秋》所云不能贊一辭,蓋亦嘗從事於斯矣。公羊高實受之於子夏。榖梁赤者,《風俗通》亦云子夏門人。於《論語》,則鄭康成以為仲弓、子夏等所撰定也。後漢徐防上疏曰:『《詩》、《書》、《禮》、《樂》,定自孔子;發明章句,始於子夏。』斯其證云。」朱彞尊經義考》云:「孔門自子夏兼通《六藝》而外,若子木之受《易》,子開之習《書》,子輿之述《孝經》,子貢之問《樂》,有若、仲弓、閔子騫、言游之撰《論語》;而傳《士喪禮》者,實孺悲之功也。」
