宋太祖開寶六年四月，詔脩梁、唐、晉、漢、周書。其五代史者乃後人總括之名也。七年閏十月，書成，凡一百五十卷，目錄二卷。監修者為司空、同中書門下平章事薛居正。同修者為盧多遜、扈蒙、張澹、李昉、劉兼、李穆、李九齡。見宋史及晁公武讀書志、玉海所引中興書目皆本各朝實錄為稿本。此官修之史也。
