41  | 道光三年七月，臺灣大風雨，鹿耳門內，海沙驟長，變為陸地。四年三月，總兵觀喜、署道方傳穟、署府鄧傳安上議，建砲臺于鹿耳門，其略曰：「臺灣孤懸海外，屏幛四省，郡城根本重地，設險預防，尤為緊要。鹿耳門一口，百餘年來，號稱天險者，蓋外洋至此，波濤浩瀚，不見口門，水底沙線橫亙，舟行一經擱淺，立時破碎。其中港門深僅丈餘，非插標乘潮，不可出入。此險之在外者也。口內出水沙線二道，橫亙南北，為其內戶。南線又名北線尾，大船入口更易。小船循此線內東南行二十里，過安平鎮，為入郡咽喉。更東十里，然後達郡。北線又名海翁隙，其內可泊大船。自此至岸，亦二十餘里，為郡北之州仔尾及嘉義縣地，水深浪湧，舟不能近，無由登陸。此險之在內者也。往時偽鄭重兵，皆守安平，恃鹿耳門之險，不為設防；王師平臺，乘潮一入，鄭氏面縳輸誠。朱逆之亂，郡城已陷，賊亦恃此門不為設備；大兵再入，朱逆授首。 |
